66 Years, Route 66, and the Road Still Ahead

🎶 “Get Your Kicks on Route 66.”

As the song says, “Get your kicks off of Route 66,” and that is exactly what we did.

But here’s an important question many may ask: What does my hubby and Route 66 have in common this year? Without keeping you guessing, as of May 21, 2026, my mi amor officially turned 66. He has now caught up with the route itself, and this year, we truly got our kicks off of U.S. Route 66 during our travels through Flagstaff.

What made this journey even more special is that Route 66 is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Established in 1926, Route 66 became a legendary 2,448-mile highway stretching from Chicago to Santa Monica. Known as “The Mother Road,” it has long symbolized freedom, adventure, reinvention, and the spirit of the American road trip.
