🎂 Another Birthday, Another Blessing
On May 7, 2026, I celebrated another birthday — ringing in 54 years of life.
As I sat and pondered my years, first and foremost, I felt incredibly blessed to have reached this age because many people did not and still may not. For that alone, I am deeply grateful to turn 54 years old. But like many birthdays, this one also brought reflection.
I found myself thinking about where I thought I would be by now and all the roads I could have taken, only to find myself exactly where I am today.
Chasing the American Dream
Honestly, in my younger years, I was striving hard to live out what many would call the American Dream. I wanted:
the successful career
the husband
the three-story home with the white picket fence
two or maybe three children
multiple degrees
the luxury car
the picture-perfect life
And when many of those things did not happen the way I envisioned, I found myself at a crossroads, wondering if I had somehow missed the “right” road. Maybe I should have taken the road less traveled. Then recently, while watching Finding Your Roots, I heard a guest say something that deeply resonated with me:
“Bloom where you’re planted.”
🌱 A Shift in Perspective
On my birthday, I could have continued asking myself all the things I could have, would have, or should have done differently. But instead, I stopped myself mid-thought and asked a different question:
Have you bloomed where you’re planted?
And honestly, I can say that I have.
My life may not have unfolded exactly the way I once imagined while chasing the American Dream, but my God, I can tell you — it is not bad where I am blooming. In fact, some may even say I am truly living my best life.
✨ The Life I Never Imagined
Yes, I have experienced parts of the American Dream. I have also experienced heartbreak, including divorce, unlike many women in my family. I do not have biological children. But today, at 54 years old, I can honestly say that God has allowed me to bloom exactly where I am. My life continues evolving in ways I never could have imagined.
I am traveling a world I once only saw on maps and in history books with a husband who deeply loves me. We live in Panama, a place we knew nothing about until we began researching it years ago. I retired at 52 years old and now find myself thriving in an abundantly blessed life that God has bestowed upon us. I am cruising the world with my husband, sister, and friends, fully embracing this life and every opportunity it offers.
📖 A Scripture That Speaks to My Heart
I am constantly reminded of these words in the Bible:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” — John 10:10
Those words feel more real to me now than ever before.
As I sit here in Rotterdam enjoying a peaceful day of rest before Wayne and I travel to London tomorrow, I am reminded to simply bloom where I am planted.
🌸 What “Bloom Where You’re Planted” Means to Me
For me, it means:
🌿 Embrace the Present
Find joy and purpose in your current season instead of constantly longing for somewhere else.
🌿 Flourish Through Challenge
Use unexpected situations and disappointments as opportunities to grow your character, wisdom, and strength.
🌿 Shift Your Perspective
Your attitude shapes your growth. Adaptability allows you to create beauty from what you already have.
⏳ Enjoy Today
Enjoy today — every hour, every minute, every second — because tomorrow is never guaranteed. The future always looks brighter through the front windshield than through the rearview mirror. Let us focus on today and all it has to offer.

💛 Final Thoughts
So today, I simply leave this encouragement with you:
No matter where life has taken you…
No matter how different your journey may look from what you once imagined…
