A Farewell Rooted in Gratitude and Love

As miraculous and life-changing as this ancestral reunion had been, we all understood that—even when hearts are full—every journey eventually reaches a pause. Sadly, this reunion was no exception. As we prepared to say “peace and see you later” to our Zimbabwean ancestral family, we knew we wanted our remaining moments together to be centered on celebration, connection, and breaking bread. What better way to do that than through shared meals and meaningful experiences?

A Night of Rhythm and Celebration at Boma

Our first of two farewell dinners took us to the Boma Dinner and Drum Show, an experience we truly didn’t know what to expect—but one that proved to be worth every single dime. From the moment the drums began, the energy was infectious. We enjoyed a hearty African-inspired feast while watching vibrant dance performances and an electrifying drum show unlike anything we had ever experienced.

At one point, guests were invited to participate, and yes—we joined right in. We played drums, danced, and laughed together, fully immersed in the moment. Uncle Charles even stole the spotlight, showing off his dance moves to everyone’s delight. The evening was joyful, inspiring, and unforgettable.

What to Expect at the Boma Dinner and Drum Show

The Boma Dinner and Drum Show is a lively cultural dining experience that typically costs $55–$65 per adult and $30–$35 per child ages 3–9, with infants dining free. The price includes a generous buffet paired with live drumming, music, storytelling, and interactive performances that fully immerse guests in the celebration. While prices may vary slightly by season, the value delivered through food, entertainment, and cultural connection makes this experience truly exceptional.

Our Final Dinner Together

Our final dinner of the trip—though certainly not our last together in life—was a quieter, deeply personal gathering back at the hotel. On the night before we all went our separate ways, we broke bread one last time as a family and went around the table sharing what this reunion meant to each of us.

In a moment filled with laughter and love, our newly found brother Alexander lifted Denise and me onto his back in honor, welcoming us as his newly discovered younger sisters. Uncle Charles shared his final words, encouraging us to invite other U.S. bloodline relatives to Zimbabwe and expressing heartfelt gratitude that we had crossed oceans to meet them. The truth was, once we learned we were DNA-connected, we couldn’t get to Zimbabwe fast enough. This reunion healed something in all of us.

Saying “Until We Meet Again”

As we finally said our peace—pausing for just a few more photos and videos—we shared our “I love yous,” prayed blessings over one another, and hoped each other Godspeed until we meet again. This journey felt nothing short of God-ordained, and we left with hearts overflowing with gratitude.

Have you ever experienced the Boma Dinner and Drum Show in Zimbabwe? If so, we’d love to hear about it.
