✨ A Meaningful Christmas Eve Service
On Christmas Eve, Viking staff hosted a non-denominational service recognizing the birth of Jesus Christ. It appeared that several Viking staff members, who may also have been Christians, shared different scriptures from the Bible while guests were welcomed into the auditorium to sit, listen, pray, and quietly reflect together.
The service itself was very simple, peaceful, and quaint — yet meaningful in many ways. In the middle of an incredible cruise journey, it gave guests an opportunity to pause and remember the true meaning of Christmas.
🙏 Celebrating Christmas Day Together
The next morning, Christian guests aboard the ship hosted another Christmas Day service celebrating our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in a formal, yet wonderfully informal way that included Wayne and me.
This special service was led by two dear friends we met on board from the Dream Center in Arizona — a married couple who thoughtfully prepared the entire gathering for fellow guests. It truly was wonderful.
During the service, guests had the opportunity to:
quote scripture
share favorite Christmas memories
sing gospel songs
sing traditional Christmas hymns together
Honestly, we could not have asked for anything better. There was something incredibly comforting and beautiful about worshiping together with people from different places and backgrounds while sailing across the world during the Christmas season.
🍪 Holiday Cheer Throughout the Ship
Every guest also received a Christmas snack that morning — we believe it may have been muffins — which we thought was such a thoughtful gesture by Viking.
Throughout the day, the ship remained full of holiday spirit with:
Christmas carols
live holiday performances
festive music
champagne
eggnog
and guests dressed in their best holiday attire and Christmas sweaters
Wayne and I agreed that this is something we absolutely must participate in more fully next time.
Even so, we still managed to capture plenty of holiday memories onboard, including photos by:
the huge “Happy Holidays” sign
the large gingerbread house
and, of course, several beautiful Christmas trees throughout the ship
All in all, it was truly an amazing Christmas Day experience.
🌊 Christmas at Sea Hits Differently
There was something uniquely peaceful about spending Christmas Day at sea.
Perhaps it was being away from the usual holiday rush and distractions. Or maybe it was simply being surrounded by gratitude, fellowship, music, travel, and reflection while sailing through some of the world's most beautiful parts.
Either way, this became a Christmas we will never forget.
