Now that we’d made it to The Westin Cape Town, Wayne and I knew right away we had stepped into another level of luxury. Unlike our previous stay at the charming and intimate Cellars-Hohenort, this hotel was right in the heart of the city—surrounded by sleek businesses, the convention center, banks, and plenty of fellow travelers. The moment we arrived, it reminded us of home in the United States: bellhops at the ready, smiling attendants behind the counters, and a concierge waiting to help with anything from dinner reservations to sightseeing tips.
The lobby made quite a first impression—bright, open, and spacious. We stayed here for seven nights and eight days, which gave us ample time to take in the amenities and explore the city. The staff treated us like family, and to top it off, we received a complimentary room upgrade. That little touch made us feel extra special.
Our room was a dream. Spacious, airy, and with a bed that felt like sinking into a cloud—we could hardly wait to relax after our city adventures. Our location was also perfect: just one level below the Marriott Elite concierge lounge. Each morning, we enjoyed breakfast there, and in the evenings, we stopped in for hors d'oeuvres before heading out for dinner. Although the lounge didn’t serve dinner, the staff's recommendations never let us down. One of our favorites? The Oxtail spaghetti—rich, flavorful, and absolutely worth every bite.
Have you ever stayed in a concierge-level room at a hotel? Did it make your trip feel more special?
Of course, we couldn’t resist the spa. We treated ourselves twice—first to a couple’s massage and later to a refreshing scrub. My only slight disappointment was with the spa table, which never seemed to be heated, despite being told it could be. Still, the treatments themselves were excellent. The spa’s location was another highlight—right next to the gym, pool, hot tub, steam room, and sauna, all with breathtaking views of Cape Town. It was worth visiting the spa area for the scenery alone! I even took a little time for self-care at the hair salon on the 18th floor, where my stylist shared a delightful story about meeting Melba Moore and her son.
One of the most memorable parts of our stay wasn’t just the hotel, but the people we met. We connected instantly with a retired couple from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, who were also traveling the world. We shared meals, laughter, and good conversation, and before we knew it, they had extended an invitation for us to visit them back in the States. I especially loved George’s business card, which simply read: “Happily Retired.” If only I’d thought of that first!
Have you ever met someone while traveling who became a lifelong friend? Those connections are some of the best souvenirs you can take home.
Here’s how we rated our experience at The Westin Cape Town:
Hotel: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for location, comfort, and accommodations
Room: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for cleanliness, comfort, and incredible views
Spa: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ for outstanding treatments (but missing that heated table!)
Concierge: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ for excellent service and a beautiful lounge (just wish they offered dinner)
Hotel Restaurant: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for great food, warm service, and spot-on recommendations
Overall, we’d give The Westin Cape Town a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars. It truly ranks among our top hotel experiences in South Africa and Zimbabwe, to the extent that we returned again before leaving the country.
