New Year's Day Aboard Viking Jupiter: Gratitude, Reflection & Our Journey to Buenos Aires

New Year’s Day aboard the Viking Jupiter was also our final full day before disembarkation. After the excitement of welcoming 2026 the night before, the atmosphere around the ship felt noticeably calmer. Wayne and I began the morning with breakfast and enjoyed seeing a few of the friends we had made during the cruise. Throughout the day, guests and crew members greeted one another with cheerful wishes of “Happy New Year!” and “All the best in 2026!”

It was such a warm and pleasant way to begin the year.

One Last Day to Enjoy Uruguay

Guests had one more opportunity to explore Uruguay before the ship set sail again. However, since Wayne and I had already enjoyed an amazing day in Montevideo the day before, we decided to remain aboard and enjoy the Viking Jupiter one last time.

There was something peaceful about slowing down, reflecting on the journey, and appreciating the ship before it was time to leave. Of course, everyone also needed to begin packing because disembarkation was scheduled for the following morning. Suitcases started appearing outside cabins, and the reality that our holiday cruise was coming to an end began to set in.

Our First Holiday Cruise—But Not Our Last

All in all, this was a fantastic holiday cruise. It was Wayne’s and my first time celebrating Christmas and New Year’s aboard a cruise ship, and we would gladly do it all again. In fact, although this was our first holiday sailing, it certainly will not be our last. I am already thinking about the next one. 😉

There was something truly special about celebrating the season while traveling, meeting new people, exploring South America, and welcoming a brand-new year at sea.

Beginning the Year With Gratitude

Each year, Wayne and I take time to sit together and write down what we were thankful for during the previous year, as well as what we look forward to in the year ahead. This year was no exception. We carved out time aboard the Viking Jupiter to reflect on 2025 and recognize the many ways God had blessed us. From our health and marriage to our travels, friendships, family and new opportunities, we had so much for which to be grateful.

We could not begin 2026 without acknowledging God’s faithfulness and the many blessings He has bestowed upon us. Starting the year with gratitude helps us remember how far we have come, remain present in the moment, and move into the future with faith and expectation.
