Sometimes the most memorable travel experiences are the ones you never planned!
🚗 A Breakfast Stop That Turned Into a Love Affair!
Just as Wayne and I were making our way from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Boise, Idaho, we decided to take a little detour through the beautiful, quaint city of Ogden, Utah. Now, I have written about many cities during our travels, but let me tell you something: If there were ever a city I could imagine calling home someday, Ogden just might take the cake!
We weren't planning to spend much time there. In fact, we were simply hungry and looking for a good breakfast. Little did we know that this unexpected stop would leave such a lasting atmosphere; Ogden had us falling in love almost immediately.
🍳 Southern Comfort in the Heart of Utah!
Our first stop was O-Town Eats, and goodness gracious, what a breakfast! Although we were in Utah, our meals reminded us of good old-fashioned Southern comfort food. I ordered steak bites, eggs, spinach, home-baked potatoes, a biscuit, and coffee. Wayne went all in with a fully loaded omelet, stir-fried potatoes, toast, and coffee. And let me tell you, we did not leave hungry!
To say we were satisfied would be an understatement. I think someone needed to roll us out of that restaurant! LOL! After eating all that delicious food, neither of us was particularly interested in getting right back into the car. So, what did we do? We walked! And that's when Ogden really started working its magic on us.
🚶🏽♀️ A Walk Through a City Full of Charm!
As Wayne and I wandered through downtown Ogden, we found ourselves falling even more in love with this little city. Everything seemed to be right at our fingertips! There were government buildings, restaurants, theaters, movie venues, tattoo parlors (not that either of us was planning to get a tattoo! 😂), and even the Ko Ko Mo Club. Of course, seeing that name made me think of the song "Kokomo." Now, who remembers that one? 🎶
What impressed us most was how welcoming and accessible everything felt. The streets were clean; the atmosphere was relaxed, and the city had a charm that made us want to stay a little longer. I remember thinking, Could Wayne and I actually live here someday? That's how much we liked it! We could have spent the entire day exploring, but unfortunately, our schedule had other plans. Boise was calling, and eventually, we had to answer!
🚻 Wait... Am I Really Writing About a Highway Restroom? 😂
Now, here is something I never imagined including in one of our travel blogs: a highway rest area! Yes, you read that correctly.
During our journey, Wayne and I stopped at a rest area near Ogden, and I declare, it was one of the nicest public restrooms I have ever visited! First, the stall doors were bright red. The lighting was excellent, and the entire restroom was exceptionally clean. I mean, spotless! Now, anyone who travels as much as Wayne and I do knows that finding a clean highway restroom can sometimes feel like winning the lottery.
But what made this particular stop truly special wasn't just the cleanliness. It was the woman responsible for keeping it that way.
❤️ A Beautiful Reminder That Kindness Matters
As Wayne and I were leaving, we saw the woman who had been cleaning the restrooms. She was doing an outstanding job maintaining the facility, and she left a basket filled with little toys and gifts for children traveling through. How thoughtful was that?
We couldn't simply walk past without acknowledging her hard work. So Wayne and I stopped to thank her in person. We told her how much we appreciated the care, dedication, and pride she put into making the rest area such a pleasant experience for travelers.
We also left her a tip as a small expression of our gratitude. And do you know what happened next? She gave me the biggest hug! 🤗 Oh, I felt the love! It was such a simple but beautiful moment. Two travelers expressing appreciation, and one hardworking woman responding with genuine warmth. Sometimes, the most meaningful encounters happen in the most unexpected places. And this was certainly one of them.
🌟 Ogden, You Have a Special Place in Our Hearts!
Our visit to Ogden may have been brief, but the memories will stay with us for a long time. From a delicious breakfast that nearly put us into a food coma, to strolling through a charming downtown, to receiving a heartfelt hug at a highway rest area, Ogden reminded us that great travel experiences aren't always about famous landmarks or elaborate itineraries.
Sometimes, they're about the people you meet, the kindness you experience, and the unexpected places that make you feel right at home. And Ogden, Utah, certainly made Wayne and me feel that way. Would we return? In a heartbeat! ❤️
