Yes, That Idaho Potato Called My Name!

The answer is YES! Yes, that prime rib with the famous Idaho potato did, in fact, call my name! I could almost hear it saying, "Hey, Tamara! Are you really going to eat me?" And my answer? "Yes, indeed!" 😂

But hold on! Before Wayne and I finally got our hands on that much-anticipated Idaho potato, something unexpected happened. Remember how I told you in our last blog that something in downtown Boise stopped us in our tracks? Well, I'm finally ready to tell you what it was! And let's just say, our taste buds had other plans for us.

🥧 Wait a Minute…Did That Sign Say PIE?

We were minding our own business, enjoying our drive through downtown Boise, when something suddenly caught our attention. Boise Pie Co. & Eatery!

Oh, my goodness! Wayne and I practically stopped in our tracks and made a beeline straight for it! Some years ago, while visiting Savannah, Georgia, we discovered a wonderful little pie shop that served just about every kind of pie imaginable. Sweet pies, savory pies, pot pies, hand pies—you name it, they had it! And let me tell you, we were in pie heaven!

So naturally, when we spotted Boise Pie Co., we had to investigate. Could this little Boise discovery possibly measure up to our Savannah experience? Well, there was only one way to find out!

🍰 Five Pies, Two Travelers, and One Delicious Discovery!

Now, here's where things got interesting. Wayne and I discovered that we could order a pie flight! Yes, you read that correctly. A flight of pies! Imagine sampling several different pies without having to commit to just one. Well, you already know what happened next.

We ordered our flight and shared five delicious flavors:

  • 🍮 Salted caramel pie

  • 🫐 Wildberry pie

  • 🥜 Peanut butter pie

  • 🍋 Key lime pie

  • 💜 Idaho's famous huckleberry pie

And, of course, we enjoyed our sweet little adventure with a good cup of coffee. ☕ Every single pie was delicious! We especially loved tasting huckleberry pie, a regional favorite that made our Idaho experience even more memorable. As we enjoyed our little slices of happiness, Wayne and I agreed that we would have to return someday to sample some of their savory dishes. But not tonight!

Tonight was reserved for prime rib and that famous Idaho potato! 🥔 After all, we had already delayed our potato mission long enough!

🥩 The Moment of Truth: Prime Rib and the Famous Idaho Potato!

Finally! After all the anticipation, distractions, and delicious detours, Wayne and I were about to find out whether the famous Idaho potato was really as good as everyone said. Our dinner arrived, and there it was. A beautiful serving of prime rib accompanied by a loaded Idaho potato topped with all those wonderful fixings.

Cheese, bacon, green onions, and all that delicious goodness! Oh, my goodness! 😋 I could hardly wait to dig in. And after that first bite? We understood the hype! That potato was absolutely delicious—honestly, one of the best-tasting potatoes we had ever eaten. But as with most things in life, there was a little good news and a little bad news.

😂 The Good News and the Bad News!

Let's start with the good news. The Idaho potato was everything it was cracked up to be—and then some! It was flavorful, satisfying, and absolutely worth the wait.

Now, for the bad news.

We only had HALF a potato! 😳 HALF! Now, don't get me wrong. The serving was perfectly reasonable, especially considering the prime rib that came with it. But after all that anticipation, I wanted MORE! 😂Wayne and I decided to split the potato in half. I looked at that half potato and thought, Seriously? After everything we've been through to get here?

Of course, Wayne and I have been working toward healthier eating habits, so perhaps that half potato was a blessing in disguise. Portion control, right?

But goodness gracious, that potato was so delicious I could have happily eaten the other half! Oh well, maybe next time.

❤️ So, Is the Idaho Potato Really Worth the Hype?

Absolutely, positively, YES! After our time in Boise, Wayne and I can confidently say that the famous Idaho potato deserves its reputation. We came looking for a potato, but we discovered so much more along the way.

Beautiful scenery, peaceful river walks, a charming winery, a delightful pie shop, and some memorable meals. Isn't that one of the best parts of traveling? Sometimes the unexpected stops become just as memorable, and in our case, a little detour for pie made our Idaho potato adventure even sweeter!

💬 Now It's Your Turn!

Have you ever visited Idaho and tasted one of its famous potatoes? Did it live up to the hype for you? And while we're asking questions, have you ever enjoyed a pie flight? Because Wayne and I would certainly recommend giving one a try! We would love to hear about your experiences. Leave us a comment and share your thoughts!

🚗 Coming Up Next: Walla Walla, Washington!

Our journey continues as we make our way to Walla Walla, Washington, where we stayed at the historic Marcus Whitman Hotel and Conference Center.

And let me tell you, this wasn't just another hotel stay. Something about this place felt special, and we can't wait to share why it left such an impression on us.

Stay tuned, because our adventure through the Pacific Northwest is far from over! ❤️

Until next time, keep exploring, keep discovering, and never underestimate the joy of a good potato—or a delicious slice of pie!
