📣 An Early Wake-Up Call Worth Hearing

On December 20th and again on December 21st, before we could barely get out of bed, we heard an announcement over the loudspeaker in our cabin.

We were entering the Chilean fjords… and soon after, the Amalia Glacier.

Let’s just say—this was one wake-up call we didn’t mind at all.

🏔️ Sailing Through the Chilean Fjords

First, the Chilean fjords.

Without a doubt, this was something to see.

Even with the cold, crisp air, it was absolutely worth stepping outside, finding a spot on any deck, and capturing the moment. Every turn revealed something new—mountains, water, and a quiet beauty that is hard to put into words.

The Chilean fjords, located in southern Patagonia and stretching from Puerto Montt to Cape Horn, are a breathtaking network of deep, narrow waterways carved by glaciers during the last Ice Age. Surrounded by towering mountains, dense forests, and cascading waterfalls, these fjords are filled with a unique mix of freshwater from melting glaciers and seawater.

And the colors…

You could actually see the variations in the water—shades that were simply stunning.

🌧️ Beauty Beyond Words

We had heard that this region is rich in wildlife—dolphins, whales, sea lions, and seabirds—and that it is known for its cool, rainy, ever-changing weather.

Although we didn’t spot any wildlife that day, the beauty of the fjords alone left us speechless.

Truly, our photos could not do it justice.

It’s one of those places you have to experience to fully understand.

🧊 Then Came the Amalia Glacier

Just when we thought the fjords had taken our breath away, we arrived at the Amalia Glacier.

And we simply could not take our eyes off of it.

It was beyond stunning.

At first, like many others on the ship, we tried to capture the perfect photo from the deck… not realizing that the best view was waiting for us in our own cabin.

☕ A Balcony Moment We’ll Never Forget

As the ship turned, our balcony became front and center to this majestic glacier.

There we were—face to face with towering ice, surrounded by mountains.

We made a cup of tea, stepped out onto the balcony, and just sat in the stillness of it all.

No rush. No noise. Just quiet awe.

We could not fully comprehend the depth of its beauty—but we felt it.

And we were so grateful to experience it that way.

🧭 A Closer Look at the Amalia Glacier

The Amalia Glacier, located in the remote beauty of Bernardo O’Higgins National Park in Chilean Patagonia, is a stunning tidewater glacier that flows directly into the sea. Fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field—one of the largest ice masses outside of Antarctica—it features striking blue ice formations set against rugged mountains and cascading waterfalls.

Often shrouded in mist and rain, the glacier offers a dramatic contrast of ice and greenery—both powerful and peaceful at once.

Experiencing it by ship truly gives you a front-row seat to one of nature’s most breathtaking displays.

🙏 A Moment of Gratitude

It is truly my prayer 🙏 that you, too, will have the opportunity to visit these incredible places one day.

The Chilean fjords and the Amalia Glacier are not just beautiful—they are unforgettable.

And they are absolutely worth it.

🚢 Coming Up Next… Puerto Montt

Next, we arrive at our first port of call: Puerto Montt.

Will we feel the same about the port as we did about the fjords and the glacier?

Come along and find out.
