Wayne Meets the Grand Canyon: A Biblical Creation & Sunset Experience
After years of talking about it, Wayne finally experienced the Grand Canyon for the first time—and I returned for the first time since high school. From breathtaking views of the South Rim to a Biblical Creation Tour filled with Scripture, reflection, and an unforgettable sunset, our day reminded us why some places simply have to be experienced in person.

After years of talking about Wayne visiting the Grand Canyon for the first time, the day had finally arrived. We woke up early that morning in Flagstaff, excited and ready to make our way to one of the most recognizable natural wonders in the world—Grand Canyon National Park.
But we weren't just going to see the Grand Canyon. We had something special planned: a 4-Hour Biblical Creation + Sunset Tour of the Grand Canyon National Park South Rim. Now, this was something I had never done before either, so we were both excited about what was to come.
🚗 The Journey from Flagstaff
We set off from Flagstaff knowing we had about a two-hour journey ahead of us. But we didn't mind. We enjoyed each other's company, the changing scenery, and the beautiful views along the way. There was also a growing sense of anticipation.
For Wayne, this would be his very first look at the Grand Canyon. For me, it would be a return after many, many years. The last time I visited the Grand Canyon, I was a high school teenager! And then, finally, we arrived.
🏞️ Waiting for That First Look
We parked and headed over to the Visitor Center while we waited for our tour host to arrive. The wait only seemed to build our anticipation. Wayne was about to see the Grand Canyon for the first time, while I was curious to see how I would experience it after all these years.
Our host soon arrived and introduced herself. Two additional young women, who appeared to be college-aged, joined us. That was it—just the five of us. It felt almost like a private tour. We climbed into the van, and we were off!
😲 Wayne's First View of the Grand Canyon
And then came the moment.
Wayne finally had an unobstructed view of the grandest canyon of them all—the Grand Canyon. Of course, he took pictures. Lots of pictures. But there were also moments when he didn't take any. He simply stood there, looking off into the distance. I understood why.
We were both in awe. Words and photographs simply cannot capture how enormous, vast, and majestic the Grand Canyon really is. You can see pictures your entire life, but standing at the edge and looking out over that seemingly endless landscape is a unique experience. Sometimes you just have to put the camera down and look.
📖 Seeing the Canyon Through a Biblical Lens
Our host gave us time to explore and walk around on our own, but when she caught up with us, the experience took on another dimension. Because this was a Christian tour, she explained the Grand Canyon's geology and history from a biblical Creation perspective.
At different points during the tour, she would gather us together, and there were even moments when we sat on the red rocks while she opened the Bible and read Scripture. Sitting there, surrounded by the Grand Canyon's enormity while listening to Scripture, was completely different from any national park tour we had experienced before.
It was fantastic. Whether we were listening, learning, taking photographs, or simply staring across the canyon, the experience gave us plenty to think about.
🌅 Then Came the Sunset
As wonderful as the day had already been, there was still one more experience waiting for us.

As the sun began to descend, the canyon changed before our eyes. The light, shadows, and colors across the landscape seemed to shift from one moment to the next. And nobody could stop taking pictures! Wayne and I took photo after photo, including one special picture of the two of us with the full moon behind us.
By the end of the evening, we had captured so many wonderful photographs that I honestly didn't know which one I should use for this blog! But maybe that is a good problem to have.
💰 Was the Biblical Creation & Sunset Tour Worth It?
Absolutely. We took the 4-Hour Biblical Creation + Sunset Tour at the Grand Canyon National Park South Rim on February 27, 2026.
The tour included several scenic overlooks along the South Rim while our guide shared an interpretation of the canyon's geology and history from a biblical Creation perspective. The experience concluded with us watching the sunset over the Grand Canyon. The cost was $298 for the two of us, or $149 per person. For us, it was well worth it.
We would do it again in a heartbeat.
❤️ Put the Grand Canyon on Your Bucket List
I really cannot say enough about visiting the Grand Canyon. There are certain places where photographs simply aren't enough. You need to stand there. You need to see the scale with your own eyes. Experiencing the feeling for yourself requires you to look out across that enormous landscape. The Grand Canyon is one of those places.
If you have never been, put it on your bucket list. And especially for those of us who are U.S. citizens, this extraordinary place is right here in our own country, waiting to be experienced.
For Wayne, it was his first visit.
For me, it was a return decades after I first saw it as a teenager.
For both of us, it became a memory we won't soon forget.
